In the last session of the CME, the Secretary of Education and his representatives went down in history as agents of the destruction of the municipal education system. The 16th Plenary Session of the 12th term of the Municipal Education Council (CME) of Cabo Frio, held on Monday (12/9), exposed, once again, the contradictions and disregard of the municipal administration in relation to the school communities. Last Monday, in the midst of a heated discussion about the changes in the Elementary Education matrixes from 6th to 9th grade and the maintenance of the full-time high school model, which has penalized students and their families in situations of financial vulnerability, councilor Fábio de Souza e Silva, a representative of the teachers — appointed to his position by the Secretary of Education and not by the teachers of the network — used the strategy of requesting to review the process. The maneuver by the councilor — who did not have the courage to take a stand against the school communities in the plenary —, endorsed by the president of the CME, professor Janeide Gondim, resulted in exactly what the government representatives were seeking: to silence the clamor for an educational model that meets the needs of students, their families and teachers. The request for review postponed the vote until 2025, leaving the issue in suspense and imposing, in practice, that the current model remain in force throughout the next year. This perpetuates a curricular matrix imposed from the top down by the Municipal Department of Education, which disregards the reality of families who face extreme difficulty in supporting themselves with their children in a full-time education regime that prevents them from working, taking professional courses, doing internships, etc. Read the full article on the Sepe Lagos portal: https://sepelagos.org.br/2024/12/13/r...
