On Roda Viva, journalist Vera Magalhães welcomes environmentalist and writer Ailton Krenak. Considered one of the greatest indigenous leaders in Brazil, Ailton Krenak is a philosopher, writer, poet and journalist. He has dedicated himself to defending indigenous rights since the 1980s. He founded the NGO Núcleo de Cultura Indígena, organized the Aliança dos Povos da Floresta and holds an honorary doctorate from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), in Minas Gerais. Krenak was born in the Vale do Rio Doce region, an area deeply affected by mining activity, one of the greatest threats to indigenous peoples, who also suffer from invasions of demarcated lands and logging. #RodaViva
