Content: Treasure Island, the classic by Robert Louis Stevenson. An old sailor, William "Bill" Bones, takes up residence in the rural English inn "Admiral Benbow" near Bristol. Jim Hawkins, the first-person narrator of the novel and son of the innkeeper couple, looks out for a one-legged man for the alcoholic Bones, whom he evidently fears. When Bones is visited one night by a sailor known as the Black Dog, a terrible argument breaks out between the two. After the Black Dog has fled, the blind beggar Pew appears at Bones' house and hands him a piece of paper with a "black spot" on it, which means he will be deposed. Shortly afterwards, Bones collapses and dies after a stroke. That same night, Pew and his accomplices raid the inn. Jim and his mother are able to escape at the last moment, but not without first secretly taking a package from Bones' seaman's chest. Inside is a map of an island where the treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Flint is said to be. Jim Hawkins shows the map to his fatherly friend, the doctor Dr. Livesey, and the landowner and justice of the peace John Trelawney, who then decide to go on an expedition to the island. Jim is also to travel along as a cabin boy. The Hispaniola serves as the expedition ship under Captain Smollett. It later turns out that, without knowing it, some members of Captain Flint's former pirate crew have also been hired, most notably the one-legged ship's cook Long John Silver. Sitting in an apple barrel, Jim Hawkins overhears the conspirators' plan to mutiny after recovering the treasure and murder the ship's captains...
