Reviews “A very low-budget alternative Western written and starring Jack Nicholson and directed by the simple-minded, philosophical Monte Hellman, this is proof positive that high-quality, engaging films can be made by talented, thoughtful filmmakers on a shoestring. Along with its sibling, Shootout (1966), neither of which received an initial American release (who was responsible for these things?), both are now considered excellent B-movies and have acquired cult status. This one is more stripped down in its deception than its existential counterpart, and it works just as well as Shootout, but on a different plane of existence. Jack Nicholson seems to appreciate and understand “western talk,” and his script is filled with terse but terse, laconic dialogue. When the characters do speak, it is with experience and a kind of intellectual insight. Their words are few but meaningful, learned from the hard school of life. Cameron Mitchell is completely believable as Nicholson’s riding companion, and another well-known actor, Harry Dean Stanton, plays him in a small role. But the entire cast seems to be there throughout the film, all contributing to the experience and none of them detracting from it. It comes highly recommended for Nicholson’s fine screenplay, Hellman’s assured direction, and the cast playing real characters. Everything Clix and the independent film crew have made a Western that has stood the test of time, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it a little gem.” By LeonLouisRicci on IMDb.com “This film is much better in my opinion than The Shooting, which was made around the same time, mainly because the story made sense. The screenwriting by a young Jack Nicholson is surprisingly good. Made on a low budget, this is a good example of how filmmakers can make very good films without spending tens of millions of dollars. There are decent performances from all the actors here. “The film is set in some very well-chosen locations, and the camerawork is very good. This film, to me, is more realistic and real than most Westerns. All the characters are believable, as are all the events, and people act the way people would act in those situations.” By Freedom060286 on IMDb.com Also Known As (AKA): (Original title): Ride in the Whirlwind Argentina: A través del huracán Brazil A Vingança de um Pistoleiro Canada (English title): Ride in the Whirlwind Finland (Video title): He ratsastastivat elääkseen Finland is ratsastivat läpi luotisateen France L'ouragan de la vengeance Greece Greece: Καλάπάζοτατας στονο ανεμοστορόιλο Hungary Lovasok a forgószélben Italy Le Colline Bleu Poland Nesluszny Oskarzny Portugal or Voraçao Romania: Romania: Călăreşte în vârtejul de vânt Soviet Union (Russian title): Posted in Uncategorized Spain: Through the Hurricane Spain (alternative title): Forajidos salvajes Sweden (video box title): Jagad Mut Duden Sweden (video title): Rid för livet Sweden (video title): Dom Red for Lift Sweden (TV title): Trey Red for Lift United Kingdom Ride in the Whirlwind United States Ride in the Whirlwind West Germany Ritt im Wirbelwind ····· Support us! ✘ Membership - https://bit.ly/38uIhOg #Free Western Movies #Western #Cowboy Movies ····· Copyright: All the movies we publish are legally licensed.
