If you have 4 times fewer streets than other cities, and you want to close them to traffic, what should you do? Build new ones! As part of the area revitalization, Łódź created quarter breaks, which are completely new spaces previously inaccessible to residents. This is not only an opportunity for longer walks around Łódź, but also a place where new investments will appear. Such secondary street designation is also an opportunity to break the monotony of the Łódź grid. Between the straight parallel routes, more streets are now creeping in, winding in meanders of courtyards. All of them gain a green character that is conducive to pedestrians, but also facilitates communication services in the areas. As part of the revitalization, three such projects were created: Pasaż Róży - in the Piotrkowska, Próchnika, Zachodnia, Legionów quarter Pasaż Thatcher - in the Tuwima, Sienkiewicza, Piotrkowska, Moniuszki quarters an unnamed passage by the Powszechny Theater - the Legionów, Gdańska, Ogrodowa, Zachodnia quarter an unnamed passage by the City Office - the Schillera, Sienkiewicza, Nawrot, Piotrowska quarter However, breaking through the blocks is not a new concept. Łódź has already tried to do it in two periods. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, at the initiative of the developers of the time, Kamienna Street (today Włókiennicza) and Ewangelicka Street (today Rosevelta) were created. The second period was the post-war period, as part of which Piotrkowska was cleared of wooden, low-rise and factory buildings. As a result, today we can walk along Rubinsteina, Schillera, or Józefskiego Avenues. Is there room to designate more? Of course! #revitalization #Łódź #IloveŁódź #monument #weekend #guide #interestingfacts #travel #architecture #factory #sightseeing #Poland #attractions
