2006 14 minutes The series "Restoration Techniques" is a program that introduces the techniques used to restore things that have once been lost, while observing the process. This time, it focuses on the restoration technique of the "datsuka kanshitsu technique," which was lost over 1,000 years ago. Buddhist statues from the Tenpyo period were made using the datsuka kanshitsu technique, in which a clay prototype is topped with multiple coats of lacquer and hardened, and then the inside is scraped out and made into a papier-mâché-like structure after drying. One craftsman takes on the challenge of restoring this technique, which has since been lost. Award-winning work Living Yasuhiro Kobayashi Kyoto Scientific Co., Ltd. Kyoto Scientific Co., Ltd.
