Francisco Marques, 69, a resident of the city of Tiradentes, in the eastern part of São Paulo, fell for a scam on social media. In May 2024, the man began talking to Rosy Stephens, who claimed to be a lieutenant in the United States Army. During the relationship, Rosy asked Marques for money, which resulted in a loss of R$100,000. When he began to suspect the situation, the victim went to the Federal Revenue Service at Guarulhos Airport and discovered that he had been scammed.
