What is the role of violence in human culture? Should we talk about aggression to define violence? Is violence innate? French anthropologist and philosopher René Girard attempted to answer these fundamental questions during his talk in December 2007 at the ENS. Find his entire lecture in which he questions violence and the causes of its development in our universe. Published in 1972 under the name "Violence and the Sacred", René Girard's anthropological essay seeks to answer the following question: "How did archaic cultures protect themselves from mimetic rivalries?" He explains that violence and the sacred are intimately linked, in the name of a political necessity. According to René Girard, violence engenders the sacred while the sacred will want to imitate violence in order to preserve the social cohesion of the group. --------------------- ????
