Old, aging fruit trees that have not been pruned for a long time are a real challenge for many garden owners. The trees often still bear a lot of fruit, but the quality usually leaves a lot to be desired. Worm-eaten, scab - too small - too acidic. The trees themselves are often not in good condition either. Due to bizarre growth and the associated poor statics, some even threaten to fall over. In order to get these aging fruit trees under control again, normal fruit tree pruning, i.e. no simple training pruning, as is normally done on fruit trees every year, is not enough. Only a rejuvenation pruning, also known as a thinning pruning, helps here. The rejuvenation pruning radically thins out the crown of the old fruit trees and cuts away all branches that are too close together, too dense and that impair the statics. Instead of garden shears, a tree saw is used here, as the rejuvenation pruning mainly involves removing strong branches. We will show you here how to carry out a rejuvenation pruning on your old, aging fruit trees. This cut will get your old trees producing high-quality fruit again. The statics of the fruit tree can also be improved through rejuvenation measures. In Part 1, we will first examine the tree to clarify the problems of our old fruit tree - an apple tree of the Kaiser Wilhelm variety - and how they can be resolved. We will also introduce the tool we need for rejuvenation pruning. Then we'll move on to the first leading branch. Thinning out the first branches. In the next part, we'll continue with thinning out the old Kaiser Wilhelm apple tree. Stay tuned, Part 2 is coming soon. Or you can subscribe to our channel so you don't miss the next episodes.
