The wealthier the parents, the higher the level of education of the child? That is actually true. Whether a child goes to grammar school after primary school depends largely on social background in Germany. Numerous studies show that the level of education and income of the parents have a strong influence on which type of school the child attends. And in Germany, this is usually decided as early as the 4th grade. Some are therefore calling for the three-tier system of grammar school, secondary school and middle school to be replaced by comprehensive schools. While some hope that this will lead to more equal opportunities and better social interaction, others fear a decline in performance levels and an increase in private schools - and thus even more of a separation of social classes. Will the abolition of the multi-tier school system really lead to more educational equality or will it threaten a collapse in school performance? Our guests discussed this question in this episode of "13 Questions".
