To cut out a 100,000 km² piece of the map of Europe, order a forced migration of millions of people and move the borders of states. Is this a madman's dream? Meanwhile, after World War II, Joseph Stalin implemented just such a plan in relation to Poland. Our country lost almost half of its pre-war territory in the east to the Soviet Union. However, we received something in return. The Recovered Territories, the Polish "Wild West" or the Western Territories - the areas that found themselves within the borders of our country after World War II were called differently. They were not only supposed to be compensation, but also to be a direct testimony to the fact that Poland fought World War II. Was this right? How did life in these areas differ from the events in other parts of Poland? Who inhabited these areas and who moved to them? And why can't we write this otherwise contemporary history without the participation of figures such as Mieszko I or Bolesław the Brave? We will tell you about how the Western Lands gradually became part of the Polish state in today's episode of "Rzecz Historyczna".
