Recorder continues the "Free Voices" campaign, in which we set out to talk about the importance of whistleblowers and tell the stories of such people: what prompted them to come forward, what effects their revelations had, and what happened to them after they came forward and complained about abuses. Today we return to the case of Gabi Musteață, the engineer at the Prut-Bârlad Water Basin Administration (ABA), who in February 2021 reported in a Recorder article the practice of political hiring in the institution where she worked: a waitress with no training in the field had been appointed to the dispatch center of the Flood Defense Department. Almost a year and a half after the publication of the article, we spoke with Gabi Musteață again to find out how her case and the situation in the institution evolved after she chose to go public and talk about political hiring. -------------------------- Project carried out by the Recorder Community Association, in partnership with Funky Citizens, with the financial support of the Active Citizens Fund Romania, a program financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the 2014-2021 SEE Grants. -------------------------- Recorder is an online publication built by a team of journalists around these principles: honest journalism, done with passion and put in the public service.
