The new Lyon-Turin line is a major infrastructure project in the trans-European transport network connecting France and Italy. This high-speed and freight rail line aims to increase the capacity and efficiency of cross-border rail transport and reduce CO₂ emissions by shifting freight transport from road to rail. A central component of the Lyon-Turin line is the base tunnel through the Mont Cenis mountain. The Mont Cenis Base Tunnel, also known as the Mont Cenis Tunnel, will be the longest tunnel in the world when completed, with a length of 57.5 kilometers.
