I read from "Erotic Book" (Shincho Bunko). First published in "Kodan Yomikiri Club" May 1952 (Showa 27) Kanjiro, an order taker, followed his father's wishes and aimed to catch Nezumi Kozo Jirokichi. Then, one night, he cornered Nezumi Kozo but made a mistake and was seriously injured. Nezumi Kozo, a great thief with a reputation for being a noble thief, was very popular among the common people, and Kanjiro, who tried to catch him, incurred the resentment and was showered with insults... [Main characters] Matsudaya Kanjiro: an order taker in Edo. He followed the wishes of his father, who died a tragic death trying to catch Nezumi Kozo Jirokichi. Gonshichi: Kanjiro's subordinate. Nezumi Kozo Jirokichi: a great Edo thief famous as a noble thief. Onatsu: a dutiful girl who lives in the tenement house behind Kanjiro's. Izumiya Tobei... His real name was Shimizu Satomu. He was born in Yamanashi Prefecture. After graduating from Nishimae Elementary School in Yokohama, he lived as an apprentice at Yamamoto Shugoro Shoten in Kobikicho, Tokyo. In 1926, his work "Sumadera Fukyo" was published in Bungeishunju, becoming his literary breakthrough. His work "Nihon Fudōki" was nominated for the Naoki Prize in the first half of 1943, but he steadfastly declined the award. Since then, he has been known for his popular novels such as "Yanagibashi Monogatari", "Sleepy Chief", "Eiga Monogatari", "The Fir Tree Remains", "Red Beard Clinic Story", "Five-petal Camellia", "Aobeka Monogatari", "Void Travels", "A Town Without Seasons", "Sabu", and "Long Slope", which depict the suffering of samurai and the sadness of ordinary people from the perspective of ordinary people, and historical novels, and he was especially highly praised for writing many masterpieces in his later years.
