Despite Queen Tara's refusal, Bali goes to fight Sugriva. Ram aims his bow from a thicket of trees but does not shoot the arrow due to confusion about identification. Bali attacks Sugriva a lot and forces him to run away. Jamvant treats Sugriva by applying ointment. Sugriva rebukes Ram. Then Ram tells him that due to the similarity between the two brothers, he was not able to differentiate between Bali and Sugriva during the war and if the arrow had hit him by mistake, it would have been a disaster. Ram touches Sugriva with his hand. All of Sugriva's pain goes away. Ram sends Sugriva to fight Bali again but makes him wear a garland of flowers for identification. Sugriv goes to Bali's palace again and challenges him. Queen Tara stops Bali and explains that Sugriv, who has fled from the war, is challenging him after getting encouragement from Rama. Tara asks him to postpone today's war but Bali goes to fight. Bali once again dominates the fight. Rama attacks him with an arrow from behind the trees. Bali falls down injured. Bali scolds Sugriv for betraying the family. Rama goes to him. Bali asks which code of conduct has Rama followed by attacking secretly? Why is Bali his enemy and Sugriv dear to him? Bali says that if Rama had taken his help instead of Sugriv, he would have had the ability to bring back Sita from Ravana. Rama tells Bali that he is talking about Dharma today while dying, whereas he kept doing Adharma throughout his life. He kept his younger brother Sugriv expelled from the kingdom. Sugreeva's wife is treated subservient like one's own wife while the younger brother's wife is like a daughter. Rama says that because of these sins he has been given the death penalty according to Manusmriti. Bali realizes his crimes. He falls at Rama's feet and prays for salvation.
