About :

At Wednesday's state budget debate, EKRE faction MP Rain Epler pointed out that everything that is supposedly being done to improve finances is actually moving in the wrong direction. "If we start to come a little further, everything has gone downhill in Estonia since the day the sunrise government - as it was called at the beginning of 2021 - under the leadership of Kaja Kallas stepped down. For example, transport has become more expensive since then by 32%, housing prices by 46%, electricity by 188%, health care by 30%, food by 49%. And then we have, for example, the minister of finance on the console handing over the state budget and saying something about the increase in real wages. The real wage is the view of the wage that the increase of the average wage compared to inflation, the rise in prices. I don't know where that number comes from, that real wage increase. Then Annely Akkermann, the head of the finance committee, will come here to speak today and say something about the pension increase: the increase in pensions will help people and people can manage. And then I look at these numbers and think that, in my opinion, this government activity takes place in a completely parallel world. There is real life and then there is some kind of fantasy world that they live in. Today I held a debate here with our Prime Minister and asked him what he plans to do in the changed geopolitical situation. He was talking about his fantasy world. It is as if he did not perceive that great changes are taking place in the world. That first. Then, when making budgets, in recent years there has been talk all the time about putting the state finances in order. The state's finances are always fixed, every year they are fixed, but every year, if you look at the state's debt load or the budget deficit, it always moves in the wrong direction. We are also moving away from tidying up. Now, when we look specifically at this budget, examples were given here during the discussions today as well. For example, I gave the example that one of the metrics in the Climate Ministry is that all ministries have done the measurement of their ministry's environmental footprint, so then it is - jeez! – Things have improved in the country of Estonia. The ministry has looked at how many people go to work by car, sort garbage, how much they heat their rooms, and so on. Fruitless action, useless action. But people are hired to do it. More specific examples. Together with Kert Kingo, we proposed to reduce the budgets of the ministries' public relations departments. We made these suggestions depending on the size of the respective department of the respective ministry. In total, this cut would be about 1 million, and we wrote that the freed money would be used to improve the position of the state budget. You may feel that this improvement in position is the root of all evil. But in reality, for example, it is justified to us that one million must be taken from hobby education in order to improve the position, the state has little money. Today we have a few more bills here, after this state budget we will start processing a bill where, for example, a doctor's visit fee will be established for pregnant women and children up to two years old. They want to take away health insurance from mothers raising children at home. All this because the state has little money, the budget position is bad. But when you say that you have people working in departments - and that's hundreds of people in the country, if we also include the sub-departments of the ministries - there are people working who just talk black and white. Every day these institutions and ministries screw up some kind of crap, and then they need a lot of people who flood the media with some kind of - what are they called in the press? – with paid ads. Paid ads! But in the case of announcements from the PR departments of these countries, "paid announcement" is not written. They just send out that the real wage is growing and everything is getting better. So it's a bad bill, and someone from our faction will definitely come to the desk today and submit a proposal to cancel this bill in the second reading."
