Our 2009 film takes us to Berchtesgadener Land: For many decades, the tourist attraction Watzmann and Königssee in the southeasternmost corner of Germany was best reached by train. At first, people came in horse-drawn carriages, but the construction of various railway lines led to a real rush of visitors. The railway line between Munich and Salzburg was opened as early as 1860. Near the border with Austria, a 34-kilometer-long line branches off in Freilassing to Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgadener Land. At the end of the 19th century, Freilassing was an important railway town. In Bad Reichenhall we visit the old saltworks. Bad Reichenhall owes its former wealth and rail connection to this. From Bad Reichenhall, the route continues over the steep Hallthurm Pass to Berchtesgaden. The area with Watzmann and Königssee used to be a kind of local recreation area for the people of Salzburg. They built a second railway line to Berchtesgaden. Starting in Salzburg, it led to Königssee. There is not much left of this route. We are therefore going to search for clues and the railway echo from Königssee. 00:00 Intro 00:14 Welcome from Hagen von Ortloff 00:58 Start: Railway echo at Königssee We broadcast this episode with the number 696 for the first time on June 7th, 2009 under the title: Railway echo at Königssee. #eisenbahn-romantik #swr All statements and facts correspond to the status at the time and have not been updated since then.
