For some it is a leisure activity, but for others it is a hard everyday life. For many people, hut keepers and mountain guides are the only way to access higher and more difficult alpine destinations. Together with the president of the mountain guides, Kurt Walde, we are on our way to the Schwarzensteinhütte and gain an insight into the strenuous day of both professional groups. We also look back with alpine journalist Christian Rainer to the beginnings of mountain guides in South Tyrol. Finally, we are on our way with a team of archaeologists to Schnals, where excavations are taking place below the Eisjoch in the Pfossental.
