A research project has brought new insights into the Paternkofel tunnel from the First World War and a portrait of Hugo Reider, who has been the innkeeper at the Dreizinnenhütte for two decades. During the war years of 1916-17, Italian soldiers dug a tunnel through the rocky peak of the Paternkofel. To this day, part of it is used as an access route to the summit. A research team led by archaeologist Rupert Gietl has now gained new insights into the construction and historical background of this tunnel. Hugo Reider can also contribute in-depth knowledge on the subject: the innkeeper of the Dreizinnenhütte has dealt with the Dolomites front all his life and is also a contemporary witness of recent history on the Zinnen plateau. He spent his childhood here and has been the innkeeper himself for two decades in view of the Drei Zinnen.
