???? Radiological Anatomy: Cerebral cisterns. The cerebral cisterns are compartments of the subarachnoid spaces that are a reservoir of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and through which nerves and blood vessels run. They have a higher CSF content than the ventricular system and are in constant communication with it. They are grouped into four subgroups: cerebral cisterns of the posterior fossa (prepontine, bulbar, pontocerebellar, superior vermian, magna), the perimesencephalic cisterns (interpeduncular, quadrigeminal, crural, ambiens), retrothalamic (cistern of the interposed velum, retropulvinar, pericallosal), and suprasellar (chiasmatic, lamina terminalis, sylvian). In this video, the main objective is to recognize the radiological anatomy of the cerebral cisterns and apply it in the practice of interpreting brain magnetic resonance images.
