US Secretary of State #AntonyBlinken will visit Jordan and Turkey on Wednesday, seeking to bring regional countries together around a shared vision for the future of #Syria following the departure of authoritarian ruler #BasharalAssad. During his trip, Blinken will meet with leaders in Aqaba, Jordan, and Ankara, Turkey, to discuss the situation in Syria as well as developments in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, and other key regional hotspots, the State Department said. A US government spokesperson stressed that Blinken seeks to build regional consensus on essential principles for Syria’s transition. Despite the optimism of many Syrians over Assad’s fall, the country’s future remains uncertain. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an Islamist group leading the opposition forces, is rapidly consolidating its power.
