DW News January 12: Los Angeles faces strong wind gusts fueling flames Wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles is facing the return of dangerously strong winds that are fueling the flames and could wipe out progress in battling the fire that has been raging in the second-largest city in the United States for five days. In addition to the 16 confirmed dead, 16 people are missing, authorities said, in addition to entire communities reduced to burned ruins and thousands of people left homeless. The death toll is expected to rise over time. The National Weather Service is maintaining a red alert for critical fire conditions until Wednesday, with sustained winds of 80 km/h and gusts that could reach 113 km/h in mountainous areas.
