Having a car that runs more on ethanol, in summer or winter, keeping the cold-start system in order is essential, as it needs to always be available for any change in the weather or change in the type of fuel being supplied. 1 – Lack of supply in the auxiliary tank, empty gasoline tank and the car only running on ethanol. 2 – Aged gasoline. This usually occurs after a long period of hot weather, more than 90 days, or with a driver who only uses gasoline and suddenly decides to use ethanol. After a long period of using only gasoline in the Flex-fuel car or even months of hot weather, the gasoline in the auxiliary tank loses its characteristics, making it difficult to start when required. The right thing to do is to remove the old gasoline and always use Podium or Premium gasoline, which has a longer lifespan than regular gasoline without losing its combustion properties when starting. In short, it is a better quality and purer gasoline than regular gasoline. The system only starts operating when the fuel tank is filled to more than 90% of its capacity with ethanol and the engine temperature is below 16°C. In other words, if one of these conditions does not exist, it will not start operating. The system is intelligent and has a solenoid that controls the gasoline output only at lower engine temperatures. If this solenoid is faulty, it does not control the gasoline output, the car will constantly draw from the tank until it is empty, and it will still be out of the point with excess fuel in the system. The problem is that the gasoline in the tank loses its combustion power and the engine will not start at temperatures below 16°C. In some cases, it is necessary to take the car to a garage to have this tank cleaned; 3 – Reinforcing again to reduce the possibility of problems with old gasoline, the driver can fill the tank with Premium gasoline, or another high-octane Premium fuel that has a shelf life up to twice that of regular gasoline, and can be stored for up to 6 months without losing its properties; 4 – Some systems inject a little gasoline even when it is not necessary, some at temperatures below 16°C, in the case of Honda; others at certain times, even on the hottest days, such as Fiat models, precisely to prevent the gasoline from getting old and having to be filled from time to time. French company Peugeot decided to reduce the capacity of the tank to 450ml so that consumption is faster and it can be changed.
