The Great East Japan Earthquake hit Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, where the largest number of victims among all affected municipalities nationwide was about 4,000 people. Why did so many people fail to escape? In order to clarify the reason and pass on the lessons of tsunami evacuation to future generations, a disaster heritage group conducted a survey of about 100 surviving residents about their evacuation behavior at the time and recreated the movements of the residents on that day using CG. Then, dangerous evacuation behaviors common to many residents emerged. 13 years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. From the testimonies of residents who experienced the tsunami, we consider evacuation behaviors that will save lives.
