The Pacific War began on December 8, 1941, and ended three years and eight months later. However, even after the war ended, there were people in mainland China who were unable to return to Japan. As many as 600,000 people were taken to the Soviet Union and forced to do labor. What were they thinking and how did they survive on the Siberian soil? How did they live after the war, having witnessed the deaths of so many of their comrades? As we listen to the words of a 90-year-old man who was detained in Siberia, we think about nations, war, and what it means for people to live.
