In the author's lecture course "Areas of Darkness: Horror as a Cultural Phenomenon" together with the artist and researcher Ruslan Polanin we will talk about horror from the point of view of concept, philosophy and aesthetics. Analyzing horror in different directions of art and media, we will try to shed light on the dark areas of this genre. In the first lecture of the course we will try to define the main components of the horror genre and understand why horror is becoming one of the most interesting cinematic phenomena of our time. We will consider it through the prism of the psychoanalytic and cognitivist approach, and also analyze the key ideas of the genre: reflection of social and psychological fears of society, embodiment of the figure of the Other, the question of the norm and violation of the existing order of things. Ruslan Polanin is a contemporary artist, sound artist, sociologist of art. In his artistic works he turns to the ideas of new mythology, occult knowledge, historical memory, considering them through the prism of horror aesthetics. Bibliography: "Formulas of Fear.
