The second film of Secret Kartotek - "Godless and Criminals". The film tells about the anti-religious campaign started by the Soviet authorities in the 20s, during which the persecution of worshipers began and many churches and monasteries were closed. The film is based on a specific criminal case, during which the Alaverdi Cathedral was robbed. During the robbery, the criminals stole the icon of Saint George decorated with precious stones and gold from the church. The robbers tried to sell the jewels piece by piece to jewelers in Tbilisi. Although the militia managed to arrest them and took away the loot, they did not return the jewels to the temple, and Bishop Piros of Alaverdi followed this incident. The goal of the project is to describe the history of Georgia through criminal cases. Each film is based on a specific criminal story, parallel to which is the description of the general situation in Georgia at that time. The project is based on two archives kept in the archival department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: the criminal cases of the Soviet Security Service and the material of the Communist Party archive, where the decisions made at the level of all links of the party are collected. In addition, periodicals of that time, as well as documents of the National Archive of Georgia, were used for the preparation of the project. The combination of all this allows us to fully describe a specific era.
