The next lecture of the "Horizontal Economy" continues the series "Chayanov and Modernity". "Chayanov and Modernity" is a series of events dedicated to the problems of rural and agricultural economy, organized in memory of the outstanding Russian economist and sociologist Alexander Chayanov. Alexander Chayanov studied the problems of the agricultural sector, especially farms, and developed a theory of family farming as the main agricultural producer. In the second lecture of the series, we will consider various theoretical and practical approaches to the policy of organizing collective farms and cooperatives, and analyze the characteristics of the Soviet collective farm model. Based on this model, we will determine the advantages, disadvantages, paradoxes of collective farm organization, its features in comparison with market-oriented cooperatives. The lecture will be accompanied by empirical examples and facts of collective farm life, gleaned from the experience of many years of historical, economic and sociological research of the speaker and his colleagues - rural sociologists and economists. Lecturer — Alexander Nikulin, PhD in Economics, Director of the Chayanov Research Center of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences, Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Peasant Studies”.
