Politician Jawar Mohammed has returned to the political arena after nearly three years of silence. He has been making strong criticisms of the Prosperity Party and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in his social media posts and interviews with the media. Jawar, who is one of the most influential politicians in Ethiopia, especially among Oromo intellectuals, is only 38 years old. Although he has many supporters, few see him as a real person. He played a leading role in leading and coordinating the Oromo youth protest against the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). After returning to Ethiopia, he joined the Oromo Federal Congress and wanted to run for office. However, he was arrested after the assassination of the prominent politician Hachalu Hundessa and spent time in prison from June 2012 to December 2014. Jawar, who has been silent since his release from prison, has been making strong criticisms of Ethiopian politics and economy. His speeches are not only critical but also deeply concerned about Ethiopia. The 38-year-old young politician has published a book in Afan Oromo titled “Hin Gaabbu” and in Amharic “Altsiztem” and is currently touring various countries in Europe to speak to his supporters.
