Two years ago, Tanimoto Morio (61 at the time) was the suspect in the arson and murder case at a psychosomatic clinic in Kitashinchi, Osaka, in which 26 people, including the clinic's director and patients, were killed. He served time in prison for an attempted murder of his eldest son, and after his release, he was unable to make connections with others and became increasingly lonely, which is believed to have led to his attempted "extended suicide" by taking his own life and involving many others. In September 2023, Yoshiko Nishida (73), a pastor at a church in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, took possession of Tanimoto Morio's remains, even though she had never met him in life.
