Gábor Zacher became known throughout the country as a toxicologist, and has been dealing with the treatment and prevention of addictions, especially drug-related cases, for decades. He often speaks in the media on health, social and prevention topics. He has become a popular expert among the public due to his clear and articulate style. Film critic Gellért Kovács talks to him in the latest broadcast of Mozinet Nagylátószög about És mi van Tomi, which will be released on October 31st. in connection with the film, among other things, about how authentically the film presents problematic situations related to alcoholism. In Mozinet's new show, directed by Attila Till, Sanyi (Szabolcs Thuróczy), the alcoholic puppeteer, and Pali (Tamás Polgár), the elevator mechanic, look for their friend Tomi, who has already missed several Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. They try to stay sober, which is not easy in a country where drinking is a widely accepted daily practice. Sanyi was abandoned by his wife and daughter five years ago because of his addiction, since then he has started a new life and does not drink, but Pali needs a little push to start drinking again. Tomi probably doesn't need that much anymore. The two friends run a race against time on the streets of Budapest to find and save Tomi. "When we started watching the film, in the first five or eight minutes, if I try to put it in an EU-compliant way, I was really freaking out, and exactly that this is how it is happening. And it happens more than once that there are such life tragedies locked within the four walls that an outside observer does not see." At the beginning of the conversation, Zacher says that he was initially skeptical about the film, but when he found out that Máté Kapitány-Fövény also took part in the production as a writer, he was convinced that the topic would be treated authentically. According to him, the film authentically presents the tragic fate of alcoholic patients, which often unfolds within four walls, which most of the time remains invisible to the outside world. "Another great strength of the film is that it introduces us to a community that everyone has heard of: Alcoholics Anonymous. Which is an incredibly serious self-help group where there are no professionals. Here, learning from each other's example, they try to support each other's lives." Zacher values ​​the community of Alcoholics Anonymous, among other things, because without the presence of a professional, alcoholics from all different social backgrounds help each other on the way to quitting. "One thing is for sure, the moment we say the magic phrase that I can stop at any time, it means I'm addicted." Zacher emphasizes that although the tendency to addiction can be inherited, it is not only determined by genetics, but is influenced by many factors. According to him, blaming alcoholism on family background is an excuse, and if someone says they can stop at any time, it practically means they are addicted.
