Midono, Yasaka Town (now Kyotango City), is located in the mountains of the Tango Peninsula, north of Kyoto Prefecture. At the time of the interview (2001), there were five houses and seven people living in this small village at an altitude of 400 meters. Yoshihiko Umeki (54) moved to this depopulated village. He lived a self-sufficient life, cultivating wasteland alone and growing rice and vegetables without pesticides, while volunteering for the blind and deaf. He also studied sign language and Braille, and while participating in sign language clubs, he met Hisayo Tsujimoto (51) from Kishiwada City, Osaka. Tsujimoto had three disabilities: visual, hearing, and speech, but the two were attracted to each other and began dating. This documentary program quietly conveys the questions of "what is a true disability" and "what is human happiness" through the interaction with the villagers of Midono, who coexist with nature, and the journey of Umeki and his wife as they get married despite the opposition of those around them.
