"Adult men and women, crying home. Other drivers are already threatening to stop driving. Something really needs to be done quickly." This cry for help comes from Tijs de Vries, Works Council Chairman of Qbuzz. A week and a half ago, Qbuzz took over public transport in the Drechtsteden, Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerenlanden from Arriva. Such a change of carrier always causes problems, so also now. Last week, Qbuzz spoke of teething problems. "Of course it doesn't help if equipment malfunctions and everyone has to get used to it, but unfortunately there's more to it," says De Vries, who is also still active as a driver. At Dordrecht station, most bus drivers don't want to appear in front of a camera or microphone, but say that the driving times are too tight in many places, which causes delays: "It's really bad in the Alblasserwaard." De Vries agrees: "In the Drechtsteden it's still going well, but in various places in the polder, such as Alblasserdam, the timetable has to be adjusted." Many passengers in the Alblasserwaard grumble and the drivers are also affected by this: "They can't do anything about it, that people sometimes have to change three times and are on the road for an hour and a half." The Works Council chairman is not only critical of his own company: "The province of South Holland is responsible for the fact that public transport here has been completely cut off. Then you get this." Qbuzz and the province of South Holland will respond on Thursday, but have already announced that attempts are being made to to solve all problems within a few weeks.
