Qassem Soleimani has been dubbed the architect of the "Axis of Resistance" in the Islamic Republic of Iran. This "axis," which was called the Shiite Crescent by the Islamic Republic's regional rivals, was a source of pride for Iranian government leaders for years. Through this axis, a territorial connection was established between Iran's borders to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the borders of Israel through Shiite militia groups in Iraq and Lebanon and the deployment of the Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria.
