It is very common to get confused with the ideas of Conscious and Unconscious, isn't it? Postulated by Freud, Psychoanalysis, like Behaviorism, has also undergone some modifications in its theories over the years. In his first topic about the human mind, Freud divided our consciousness into 3 parts: THE CONSCIOUS, THE PRECONSCIOUS, AND THE UNCONSCIOUS. In the unconscious part, we have some elements that determine our actions; these elements are called drives, specifically the life drive and the death drive. Both are managed by a type of vital energy known as libido. Later, the idea of PRECONSCIOUS was replaced by the personality structures known as ID, EGO, and SUPEREGO, giving rise to his second topic.
