Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) is a pathology caused by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and is characterized by sexual and emotional dysfunctions that usually arise while taking the drug (see my article “Sexuality and antidepressants“) and persist for an indefinite period after discontinuation. It may, more rarely, appear only when treatment is stopped. Beyond the name, the pathology does not only consist of a set of symptoms that affect the sexual sphere but is usually characterized by a broader difficulty in experiencing pleasure and emotions in general, of which sexual disorders are only the most obvious reflections.
