Preaching and Study on Psalm 37: Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 1 Do not fret because of evil men, or be envious of the wicked; 2 for they will soon wither like grass, and wither like green grass. 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; so you will dwell in the land and enjoy safety. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act: 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, and your justice like the noonday sun. 7 Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret over others' success or those who scheme evil. 8 Avoid anger and reject wrath; do not be provoked, for it only leads to evil. 9 For the wicked will be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord will inherit the land. 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you search for them, you will not find them. 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy plenty. 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and growl at them; 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows that their day is coming. 14 The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows to strike down the needy and the poor, to slay those who walk uprightly. 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. 16 A little that the righteous have is better than the wealth of many wicked. 17 For the strong arm of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. 18 The Lord watches over the lives of the blameless, and their inheritance will last forever. 19 In times of trouble they will not be disappointed; in days of famine they will be satisfied. 20 But the wicked will perish; the enemies of the Lord will wither like the beauty of the fields; they will vanish like smoke. 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously. 22 Those whom the Lord blesses will inherit the land, but those whom he curses will be cut off. 23 The Lord establishes the steps of a man when his ways please him; 24 though he stumbles, he will not fall, for the Lord holds him by the hand. 25 I have been young and now am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging bread. 26 He is ever generous and lends freely; his children will be blessed. 27 Turn away from evil and do good; and you will always have a place to live. 28 For the Lord loves those who do what is right, and he will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the descendants of the wicked will be cut off; 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. 30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; he will never tread falsely. 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, wanting to kill them; 33 but the Lord will not let them fall into their hands, nor will he allow them to be condemned when they are judged. 34 Wait for the Lord and follow his will. He will exalt you, giving you the land as your inheritance; when the wicked are cut off, you will see him. 35 I saw a wicked and cruel man flourishing like a lush native tree, 36 but he quickly disappeared and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. 37 Consider the blameless, and consider the righteous; for the man of peace has a future. 38 But all the rebellious will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked. 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their strength in times of trouble. 40 The Lord helps them and delivers them; he rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
