The landscape was majestic and after hours of walking across the glaciers we reached a mighty rock face whose rugged surface told stories of millions of years of earth's history. We searched this slope area, which had only recently been freed from ice, for signs of a new crystal fissure. Our eyes darted over the rock, our hands carefully felt over the rough rock surfaces. Suddenly Gerhard stopped and pointed to a massive quartz vein that ran vertically into the ground like a secret signpost. On closer inspection we realized that we had to follow the quartz band and began to expose it - with success! To our surprise, small rock crystals of a first-class quality were already lying in the rubble, indicating a cavity. With each blow of our tool that hit the stone, the tension grew. Then, as if by a miracle, a larger piece of rock broke away, revealing what we had hoped for - a new crystal fissure! Between the rubble and the rock lay numerous rock crystals of first-class quality - each one a perfect work of art from nature. The discovery in the Hohe Tauern was a moment that would sparkle in our memories forever, like the rock crystals themselves. ????
