Title: Thirty Sunsets Author: Kang Myeong-hee Publisher: Cheong-eo First Edition Publication Date: April 2015 [Author Introduction] Author Kang Myeong-hee was born and raised in Gimpo, graduated from Gimpo Girls’ Middle School. She went to Incheon to study abroad and graduated from Inil Girls’ High School. The author learned about the world in the city of Incheon, and as a result, more than half of the stories in her first collection of short stories, “Himalaya Bawichi,” were set in Incheon. She entered the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Sookmyung Women’s University and nurtured her dream of literature. After working as a Korean language teacher and changing careers, she made her literary debut when “A Man Standing on the Edge of a Cliff” won the Hanla Ilbo New Year’s Literary Contest. If her first collection of short stories was about struggling to survive in a given environment like “Himalaya Bawichi,” then this second collection of short stories, “Thirty Sunsets,” is mainly about people who are devastated by money and desire like a dry monsoon season. The author, who spent his childhood in an agricultural-intensive society, has affection for the agricultural society and depicts the family relationships that are disintegrating in the process of urbanization with a sad gaze. The author is currently a member of the Novelists Association and the Sookmyung Literary Society, and a member of the Geulji Literary Society.
