Project:Horizon documents the journey of Sarah, Can, Nancy, Amina, Matthias and Ingo, who face a common challenge: climbing Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Even though they couldn't be more different, they have one thing in common: a grueling past. Outside their comfort zones and isolated from family and friends, each one experiences what it means to go beyond themselves, because the mountain demands everything from them physically and mentally. The team is led by Karl, who is supported by local guides as well as physiotherapist Gert-Jan and social worker Valerie. The mountain is known for changing people and that is exactly what each individual wants to achieve: for each of them it is about development, about a fundamental change in life that this journey can trigger in them. Following the web series of the same name, Project:Horizon now also tells the various stations and challenges on the Machame route to the summit at 5,895 meters, their personal development and stories, fears and hopes, in a film with powerful images and up close.
