Alexander Haller loves playing games. And he has been doing so since he was a child. At some point he wanted to understand how video games are programmed. And so began his passion for what he has now made his profession: coding. In the 7th grade, Alex completed his first programming course, after changing schools he added computer science as a subject - and after graduating from high school he went to England to study computer science. Today the 23-year-old works at the start-up Baserow, which wants to compete with the spreadsheet company Airtable and employs 10 people. What's special about it is that all employees work fully remotely, i.e. completely from home. There is no office. The start-up is financed by investors, which is why Alex earns a pretty good salary. (More about the salary in the pinned comment below). But the salary is not the most important thing for Alex, but rather the flexibility. In his job as a programmer, he can spend time with his Labrador dog Nala and go for walks whenever he wants. The 40-hour working hours are completely flexible, he only has one appointment per week. Alex usually works less in the morning than in the afternoon, and often works at night too - as he pleases. Alex is a so-called full stack developer, meaning he programs both frontend and backend. This combination makes him very sought after on the job market, and he receives various job offers every week via social media and job portals. At Baserow, his official job title is Senior Software Engineer. In our current episode, you can see what a day in the life of a programmer looks like, what hurdles Alex faces, and where the money for his Ford Mustang comes from. --- This is "Is it worth it?": One person, one job, one life. And at the end of the day, the question: Is it worth it? We accompany people in their careers and show their lives. Is it worth it to work for a salary and use it to finance your own life? What makes me happy about work? We don't just compare salaries, we show how people live from their work. Alex has applied to us: If you also want to show how you live with your job, you can write to [email protected]! On a personal note: We are not infallible either - and although we make every effort to present every individual financial situation clearly, correctly and understandably, we sometimes need help. The Bavarian State Association of Tax Advisory and Auditing Professions e. V. always provides us with competent support in this - thank you very much for that!
