The Priwall is a peninsula about three kilometers long at the mouth of the Trave in eastern Schleswig-Holstein. Since 1226 (at that time still as an island in the mouth), it belonged to the city of Travemünde, founded in 1187, and was incorporated into the city-state of Lübeck in 1329 and finally into the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in 1913. The Priwall district also includes the Traveförde with Pötenitzer Wiek and Dassower See. The Priwall is very popular, especially in summer, because there is a wide sandy beach for swimming in the Bay of Lübeck on the northeastern part of the peninsula, which continues in its natural state on the Mecklenburg side.
