His aspirations are opposed by the boyar Kuchka, living on the territory of present-day Moscow, and the Kiev prince Izyaslav. After an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate, during a quarrel Yuri's warriors kill Kuchka. Dolgoruky annexes his possessions and begins to build the Kremlin on the site of the village of Kuchka. Kuchka's sister and daughter, Izyaslav's beloved, having moved to Suzdal, weave intrigues, trying to influence Yuri. Female cunning is put into play: Kuchka's sister tries to seduce the single prince, and the daughter agrees to marry Yuri's son, Andrei Bogolyubsky, who is in love with her. It comes to an attempt to poison Dolgoruky, but the deadly cup is drunk by the concubine who loves Yuri. In the decisive battle, Dolgoruky defeats Izyaslav’s army – and the lands are finally united around Moscow...
