*A journey through history: Exploring the Obersalzberg* With my faithful companion Mac IMECKY, I set off on an exciting tour of the Obersalzberg, a place full of history and secrets. Our first destination was the famous Kehlsteinhaus, better known as the Eagle's Nest. The Kehlsteinhaus was built in 1938 on a peak of the Kehlstein in the Berchtesgaden Alps. It was a gift from the Nazi Party to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday¹. The building stands at an altitude of 1,834 meters and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Originally used as a representative building, it served as a retreat for Hitler and his guests for government meetings and social events¹. The route to the Kehlsteinhaus is impressive: a narrow road winds its way up the mountain for 6.5 kilometers, through five tunnels and a hairpin bend¹. From the car park, a 124-meter-long tunnel leads to a magnificent elevator that climbs the last few meters to the building¹. Inside the Kehlsteinhaus, the large reception room is particularly impressive, with a fireplace made of red Italian marble, a gift from Benito Mussolini¹. After our visit to the Kehlsteinhaus, we made our way to the Berghof, Hitler's former residence on the Obersalzberg. The Berghof was Hitler's favorite place to stay and was often used for important political meetings. The building was badly damaged during World War II and later destroyed by the Allies². Another highlight of our tour was a visit to the Bormann Bunker, named after Martin Bormann, one of Hitler's closest confidants. This bunker is less well known but no less fascinating. It offered protection and retreat for the Nazi leadership³. Our last stop was Hitler's nuclear fallout shelter, the first dated nuclear fallout shelter in the world. This bunker was driven into the rock but was never completed³. It was impressive to see how far the preparations for protection against possible nuclear attacks had already gone back then. Our trip through the Obersalzberg was not just an exploration tour, but also a journey into the past. The historical sites and their stories left a lasting impression and reminded us of the dark chapters of history that must never be forgotten. ¹: [Kehlsteinhaus - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kehlste...) ²: [Berghof - Wikipedia](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berghof...) ³: [Obersalzberg - Wikipedia](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obersal...)
