On the morning of the 15th, South Korean investigative authorities executed an arrest warrant issued to Yoon on suspicion of civil unrest following the declaration of "emergency martial law" by South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol on December 3 last year, and arrested him. This is the first time a sitting president has been arrested in South Korea. Yoon released a video message to the public that he had filmed before his arrest, saying that he agreed to appear before the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIO) to be questioned. Yoon said that the rule of law in South Korea has collapsed, explaining, "I have decided to appear before the CIO, even though it is an illegal investigation. This is to prevent undue bloodshed."
