January 9, 2007. We were already hard at work that day - we started around the 5th. YouTube had just appeared, and we were publishing a magazine on disks. FXA Studio was located in a small office on the first floor of the house where I lived. Nobody was interested in Apple presentations back then, but I watched it live. After watching it, I literally went down to the office in slippers and with a cup of tea - I said, like, watch. Work stopped, because everyone was shocked. Then on the screens the viewers saw a presentation that will forever go down in history and marketing textbooks. In one hour, Steve Jobs crushed the entire mobile phone industry. Apple hit all the sore spots of the outdated handsets. It seemed incredible. The real arrival of a gadget from the future. A real touch screen, and not a slow-moving wretchedness with a stylus, like a PDA - we only dreamed of this, watching movies. A normal interface, close to a computer one. Real Internet in your phone. Google Maps integration. It all seemed like science fiction. And it was clear that it would change the world. Of course, not for everyone. Idiots rushed around and foamed at the mouth proving that this was another useless piece of crap, and by the end of the year Apple would release a push-button phone. Now they are bashfully silent. Despite the fact that we were a gaming magazine, I understood that we couldn’t pass by such an event. It was impossible to download the Apple presentation back then, especially in good quality (good quality back then was 480p, HD was just coming into use, and certainly not on the Internet), so we had to request it from the Russian office, which then consisted of two people. But everything worked out - a few days later we received a burnt disc with the most, as it turned out today, legendary speech of Jobs, and we set about creating its Russian version. Today, 10 years later, I upgraded it to the HD version (720p, as it is), and I share it with you, in order to relive this historical moment.
