The purpose of prayer is not to reach God. Prayer is the emotion of your heart. It is not a matter of purpose that a flower blooms, that its fragrance reaches someone's nostrils. If it reaches, it is fine, if it does not, it is fine. The flower does not care. Your prayer should be like the fragrance of a flower. You have made a request, your joy should be in making the request. Anything more than this means that there is some demand hidden within. You are asking for something. So does it reach or not? Only if it reaches, will the demand be fulfilled. If it does not reach, then what is the point of banging your head! And prayer is not prayer if there is some demand in it. When you have asked, you have killed prayer, strangled it. Prayer is prayer only when there is no desire in it. It is prayer only because it is free from desire. That is its sanctity. If you have kept any desire in prayer - anything - even if you have kept that much desire to attain God, then it is your ego speaking. And the speech of ego is not prayer.
