Located in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant is considered one of the largest power generation projects in Latin America. The result of a treaty signed in 1973, during the military dictatorship, the plant has binational administration and supplies both Brazil and Paraguay. With an installed capacity of around 14 GW, Itaipu cost more than US$ 27 billion. The project mobilized thousands of Brazilian and Uruguayan workers.
