A former doctor, a bioethics teacher at the Henri Mondor University Hospital (Créteil), he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Paris in 1995. A parish priest, then vicar general from 2006 to 2013, he was briefly auxiliary bishop of Paris before being appointed bishop of Nanterre in 2014. Mgr Aupetit has also been president of the Episcopal Council for Family and Society since September 1, 2017.
