For a period of time in Porsche's history, the company was considering killing off the 911. This was when the firm's most legendary model had barely been on the market for five years and faced with a somewhat peculiar market vision: the 911 was complicated for the average American driver and the commercial pie was turning towards the Gran Turismos that were more oriented towards luxury than pure sportiness. Thus was born the 928 project, a technical marvel, one of the best Porsches ever created, but also a car that, in a way, passed without pain or glory for much of its commercial life. Now, with the advantage that the perspective of time gives us, the world is beginning to appreciate this great GT that, in a way, ended up influencing both the current Panamera and the 911, which has ended up inheriting in certain versions that more Gran Turismo positioning that this beautiful two plus two offered.
